Biography

Semjon Bulinsky

Tenor

The voice

Semjon Bulinsky, born in Lucerne, is a German-Swiss tenor who combines a lyrical line with a radiant top and vocal agility. He received his first artistic grounding as a member of the Lucerne Boys’ Choir and laid the foundation for his stage career at the Berlin University of the Arts, graduating with a Master of Arts. Since the 2018/19 season he has been a member of the soloist ensemble of Theater Vorpommern.

On stage

His repertoire ranges from classical opera through operetta and musical theatre to contemporary works. Among his key roles are Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Nemorino (L’elisir d’amore) and Aeneas (Dido and Aeneas) in opera; Camille de Rosillon (Die lustige Witwe) and Alfred (Die Fledermaus) in operetta; and Freddy (My Fair Lady), Jamie Wellerstein (The Last Five Years) and Bill Calhoun (Kiss Me, Kate) in musical theatre.

Across borders

Beyond Germany and Switzerland, engagements have taken him to Austria, Italy, Spain, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Serbia, South Africa and Israel: as Tamino to the opera in Jerusalem, as Trimalchio (Satyricon) to Budapest and as Charles Wykeham (Charley’s Aunt) to the Münchener Kammeroper. As a concert and opera soloist he has worked with dozens of orchestras, including the Polish Baltic Philharmonic, the Junge Philharmonie München under Mark Mast, the ORSO Orchestra Freiburg under Wolfgang Roese, the Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz under Karl-Heinz Steffens, the Württembergische Philharmonie under Ola Rudner and the Franz Schmidt Chamber Orchestra Vienna under Nicolas Radulescu.

At the Swiss Youth Music Competition he won a first prize with distinction, and he has received several scholarships. Recordings featuring him have been released on CD, broadcast on radio and television, and are available on streaming platforms.
